FOR ADULTS

LearnFrenchNYC offers private French lessons (one-on-one or in groups of two to three) to New York City individuals to be held at the location of the student's choice - home/office, school, or public space. Our schedule is flexible and classes are available Tuesdays through Saturdays 10am to 10pm.

Lesson structure and method will be tailor-made to fit your current level, and cover your needs and interests. We offer lessons for all levels of French instruction, including: 

Conversation, grammar, reading, writing (all levels)
 Preparation for leisure or business trips to France and other francophone countries
 Listening comprehension
 Pronunciation, phonics
 French culture (politics, literature, movies, music)
 Business French (all levels)
 Drafting business and academic documents
 Test preparation (DELF / DALFDILF - DELF - DALF/TCFTCF presentation/TEF)

RATES for individual lessons for 1 student as of January 1, 2018:
$75/hour for general French, Conversation, and Grammar
$85/hour for customized courses: Phonetics, Business French, French for Tourism, Test Preparation (DELF/DALF, TCF/TEF)

FOR CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS

LearnFrenchNYC offers private French lessons to young adults ages 6-18 years-old at home or at the location otherwise designed by the parents or legal guardians. Our schedule is flexible and classes are available Tuesdays through Saturdays 10am to 10pm.

Lesson structure and method will be tailor-made to fit your current level, and cover your needs and interests. We offer lessons for all levels of French instruction, including: 

 School tutoring and homework help
 Preparation for Advanced placement test (AP), Regents exams (SAT)
 Conversation, grammar, reading, writing (all levels)

RATES for individual lessons for 1 student as of January 1, 2018:
$75/hour for general French, speaking, reading, listening, writing
$85/hour for customized courses, Homework help, Test Preparation (AP, SAT)

Levels

Here are the levels of French fluency as determined by the Common European Framework Oral Assessment gridor Reference for Languages (CEF), used internationally to assess and describe the level of fluency achieved by a foreign language learner:

Level   Description

Beginner

A1
Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
Can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has.
Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
Elementary
A2
Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate basic need.
Intermediate
B1
Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
Advanced
B2
Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation.
Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.
Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and Independent disadvantages of various options.
Proficient
C1
Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning.
Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.
Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
Expert
C2
Can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. 
Can summarise information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation.
Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of Proficient meaning even in more complex situations.

Cancellation Policy

LearnFrenchNYC requires at least 24-hour advance notice prior to cancellation. Rescheduling within the same calendar week is always an option - provided time-slots are still available. The student agrees to pay the price of a session in full for same-day rescheduling or cancellations.
